Dying Alone/Hedging

You said you were resigned to dying alone.

I guess, technically, we all die alone, but

From what fertile ground

Do you harvest darkness?

There is a hedge fund within each of us,

Quietly engaged in shorting the future
To recreate the past, however damaged
It may be.

I stopped playing the stock market.
I'm focused on bonds that appreciate over time -

Covalent bonds, the sharing of electron pairs
Between atoms.

Analysts may say market indexes will plummet, and

Hedge funds will have their day (again).

But if short calls are what it takes to stay afloat,

Maybe we’ll both die alone.
