Oh, Sandra
Purple threads of beet pasta
Swirled with clotted cream and
Shaved parmigiano-reggiano
Served with a hearty Syrah,
As was her wont.
Sandra wanted to talk about wabi-sabi-
That hard-to-describe Japanese aesthetic
Commonly associated with
the Japanese tea ceremony
And Kyoto rock gardens.
Seizing the chance, I brought her
To my teahouse and whipped up
A contemplative bowl of matcha.
She savored the verdant swill
And drank in the three sips.
Her lips between sips spoke about
Giamatti and wine
And shooting her latest in London,
But I missed what she said, for
I was whisking another bowl for
Oh, Sandra.
