Time in Shakespeare’s Time
(for Kristina)
Never was a time when
Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” played
That I didn’t recall being with
You in your Suzuka flat, your
White T-shirt & running shorts
On the couch.
You said it was a song your
Brother played a lot, but
My first time hearing it was
With you, and then, twenty-seven
Years later in time, we were sitting
In Old Soul in the alley, and it struck me
That cafe was named after us,
Was named for hours of talking,
The Old Souls of Time.
The world isn’t small, but
Time sure is, even though
During Shakespeare’s time,
Time was multi-syllabic.
Ta'Aye'Muh.
Maybe that’s how they stretched time
Back then.
I am so happy to have
Reconnected with you,
Kristina.
