Veteran’s Administration

Veteran’s Administration

I once knew someone so
Battle-scarred from war
Waged in her home & country
That no amount of
Wound-cleaning or gash-sewing
Would likely stop the gloom growth.
Dark unlife followed her voice;
Caution caves lurked below her
Wheat field.
I know the hardest part for any
Veteran can be the homecoming,
For battle changes us forever
In ways our loved ones
Can’t accept.
In this way, the war of returning
Might prove to be
The most fatal.
